Glenn McFluxus, sole proprietor, Glenn's Gallery It's not easy working for Glenn McFluxus, the most notorious art dealer in town. Sure, his gallery is the most respected and diverse, and you and his staff are competing to become (as we are still learning!!!)the most knowledgeable about the trends and traps of the risky world of art speculation. Still, Glenn's all about one thing: his bottom line. Fail, and you find yourself stripped of your responsibilities. Succeed, and—well, you still have a job in the morning. That's just the way Glenn is...

You are all employees of Glenn's Gallery, a prestigious art gallery where you are learning the ins and outs of the business of selling fine art. Your job is to look at trends in the art world, and recommend to Glenn the types of art that are going to attract the most customers. Customers are represented by cards, and at the beginning of each turn, you have a certain amount of information about the customers that will show up this month. However, you also have to watch out for art students, who drive away paying customers! At the end of each month, Glenn looks at the number of customers that have expressed interest in each type of art and rewards (or penalizes) each player based on their choices.

Beschreibung:
If Las Vegas did not exist, you would have to invent it. It's 1950 and you're a real estate developer in a struggling desert town in undeveloped southern Nevada. Millions of wealthy tourists from nearby Los Angeles might be willing to drive here on their vacations, spending billions of their hard-earned dollars, if only you produced something. But your town has nothing to offer but sand, hot weather, and the world's most unsophisticated gambling laws. Your brilliant plan? Erect a forest of casinos and sell the tourists absolutely nothing.

You and your opponents represent powerful developers in a burgeoning Nevada city. You will earn money and prestige by building the biggest and most profitable casinos on "The Strip," the town's backbone of dust and sin. You start with nothing but parking lots and dreams, but from there you build, sprawl, reorganize and gamble your way to victory. Score the most points investing in the most profitable development companies and putting the best bosses in control of the richest casinos. Put your dollars on the line . . . it's time to roll!

Titel: Wacky Wacky West
Autor/in: Klaus Teuber
Illustrator/in: Chris McGloughlin
Spieleranzahl: 2-4 Spieler
Spielzeit: 60 Minuten
Alter: ab 8 Jahre
Preis: 35 $
Beschreibung:
Amerikanische Neuauflage des Spiels "Drunter und Drüber" von 1991.

Just south of nowhere, there's the junction of the Mayfair & Rossdorf RR and the Turvy Trunk Line. Springing up from the desert like a tumbleweed lies the eccentric little town of Rossdorf. Like most western towns, Rossdorf has a Land Agent: Guy Dough, the brother of that wicked varmint Black Benny. A shrewd opportunist, Guy's done sold all the town land ('ceptin' the outhouses) four times over! Every acre in town that ain't got an outhouse on it is owned by the miners, the railroads, AND the fort captain. Just about a year ago, miners digging in the shadow of Fort Rossdorf struck the mother lode! But it wasn't gold, and it wasn't silver. No, my friend, it was just a little spring. Not any ordinary spring, though! It was a torrent of that mind-marbling drink the locals call "Wacky Water!"

Now that water's done what the sun and the wind couldn't do: it's made those landholders brave enough to take matters into their own hands. Now they'll use whatever means they can to bowl over the competition and lay claim to the only fertile spots left in town! Now the only thing stoppin' 'em is the Town Charter Amendment #5, which states: "no landholder may move, remove, or detonate any outhouse without a majority vote of the Town Citizens..." Now one thing's for sure: something’s gonna stink in Rossdorf, purty darn soon.....

In Wacky Wacky West you and your fellow townfolk place track tiles, street tiles, and river tiles hoping to destroy your rivals' buildings. Every time someone tries to build over a precious outhouse, the town votes! You try to enlist your supporters (represented by cards) to vote with you to stop or encourage the play of certain tiles-perhaps saving some of your buildings or taking out those of your dastardly opponents.

Preis: 30 €
Beschreibung:

Spielzeit: 45 Minuten
Alter: ab 7 Jahre
Preis: 30 €
Beschreibung:
This game is about the Castle of S. Jorge, a castle that is in the centre of Lisbon and has more than 1.000 years of history.

In this long history, the Castle has had several masters and has known all kind of characters. From the iron age Chief to the last King of Portugal, from the Roman Governor to the Arabic Sultan, from Kings to Scientists, from Navigators to Middle Age Writers, all of these have marked their presence in the Castle and their history is vivid in our memories still today.

In this game, 12 of the most prominent characters that have lived in the Castle dispute a tournament. This tournament happens only each 1.000 years, and the winner will reign over the Castle for the next 1.000 years.

To win this tournament, each character must walk around the board paths and some secret passages, and collect and preserve 3 S. Jorge Trophies. But be careful with the false trophies, they weight on you and slow you down.

You also have to be aware of other characters: if they encounter you, they may steal your trophies. Or you may steal theirs. Or you may discard some of your "non-valid" trophies on their back. Or the opposite. Anyway, something may happen.

And, of course, you have a special ability. Something that only you can do. How to take the most of it, that's your job.

Mondainai Strategy Games:

Essen Standnummer 2010: 4-410
Titel: 2010 Swedish Parliament
Autor/in: Harald Enoksson
Illustrator/in: Unbekannt
Spieleranzahl: 1-10 Spieler
Spielzeit: 120 Minuten
Alter: ab 10 Jahre
Preis: Unbekannt
Beschreibung:
Play as the Socialists, the Conservatives, the Farmers, the Liberals, the Christians, the Communists, the Greens, the Nationalists, the Pirates or the Feminists and partake in the 2010 elections for the Swedish parliament.

For the 7 largest parties, the goal is to build a coalition that gets more votes than any other coalition.

For the 3 smallest parties (The Nationalists, Pirates and Feminists), the goal is to get seats in parliament, and to make sure that all coalitions get less than 50% (which would mean that they'd occasionally look your way for support, allowing you to squeeze out some Nationalist, Pirate or Feminist concessions)

Among the parties that reach their goals, the winner of the game is the party who increased the most in parliament seats compared to 2006.

You play cards to:

- Shift your position on one of the 10 issues: Labor Rights, European Integration, Equality, Market Economy, Military, Environment, Religion, Tax and Surveillance.

- Shift public opinion on one of these issues

- Forge/Strengthen a coalition tie between two parties

- Break/Weaken a coalition tie

- Elevate insecurity level (war, epidemics) in order to make homogeneous and stable coalitions score more votes ("strong leader effect")

- Lower insecurity level (peace, prosperity) in order to relax penalties for heterogeneous coalitions.

The game is cooperative/competitive: The strategy (for the big 7) is to build a coalition large enough to attract the most votes. You want to limit the number of parties in your coalition though, since only one of you can win. You also want all coalition partners to keep somewhat coherent policies, as each "Strong Leader" card drawn on election day will give votes to the most monolithic coalition, regardless of its policies. Hence, take one for the team and don't divert from coalition policy more than you need to get more votes than your partners.

In times of peace and security, letting the coalition parties spread out across the political spectra is the better strategy, since voters will choose the party closest to them on the issue that is "hot" when it's their time to vote. In case of a tie, voters will go for the larger of the parties (the party scoring the most in 2006). Small parties thus needs to be more radical than large ones to attract any votes.

Small parties that stand little chance to pass the 4% threshold needed to get representation at all can be helped by a big-sister-party through "technical election cooperation" in which they are guaranteed seats in exchange for half their voters.

The "hotness" of an issue is determined by how many cards have been played on that issue; with no cards played to position parties or affect opinion on environment, environment won't matter on election day.

You play cards on all parties, but player-controlled parties can veto cards played on them, so you mostly play cards on yourself, non-player parties and allies.

While this game is packed with humorous situations since that's the nature of politics, I'd like to point out that this is intended as a serious game, based on real-world events and parliamentarian decisions, designed to model the political game in a unicameral, multiparty parliamentarian system. The party names have been exaggerated slightly in the English version to give some flavor, since the real party names are all bland and non-committing (Democratic People's Party etc). One exception is the Pirate Party which is, I repeat, which is the real name for a party currently holding 1 (2 after the Lissabon Treaty) seats in the European Parliament, where they fight against copyright and surveillance.

Will they get into the national parliament as well? Will the Nationalists? Will the incumbent right-wings get Four More Years, or will the Christians fall under 4% and thereby give way for The Return of the Socialist Empire? Will the Greens turn Red, stay Green or even get a Blue shade? What's that last card in your hand?
